Night Photography: Snow in Chichester

Yesterday I stayed up late watching the Superbowl and outside there was some heavy snowfall. Usually here on the south coast in Sussex we don’t often get snow, especially when compared to the rest of the country. As a result I don’t usually get a chance to take any photos of snowy landscapes. Due to the time difference though, the game finished at around 3.30am. This proved to be a great chance to get out with my camera and have a first attempt at photographing snow.

The other advantage this time gave me was that the snow would mostly be fresh and not covered in footprints and such like. So the game finished and to make things that much nicer, the snow had stopped falling as well. That meant I didn’t have to worry about my camera getting wet from the snow, which was an added bonus.

I wrapped up warm, got my camera, cable release and tripod and set off into the cold outdoors. Unfortunately the roads had been driven on and didn’t make for particularly great photos. Though around the corner from my house I knew there was a little stream (the River Lavant) where it went under a nice wooden bridge and there was a willow tree overhanging one side. I set up a few different shots and the one below was the pick of the bunch.

So let me know what you think and if you have any questions then please feel free to ask!
